ABOUT THE DUAL DIAGNOSIS WORKER ROLE 

We are seeking a Dual Diagnosis Worker on a 12 months fixed term contract to provide specialist dual diagnosis support with a focus on complex mental health presentations and substance misuse. You will join our team on a 12 month fixed term contract, and be based in a 27-bed residential property which is a step-down service, specialising in mental health, complex needs, and dual diagnosis. The service is spread over 4 individual sites providing high and medium support for both men and women. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to deliver compassionate, person centred support, empowering our residents which complex needs to build resilience, develop new skills, and achieve their personal goals for a brighter future. 

Within this role, you will deliver evidence-based interventions based on a holistic assessment to support personalised recovery, integration, and promotion of independent living skills. Some of the duties may include:

  • Undertake joint holistic assessments and risk assessments
  • Set up realistic and flexible strengths-based support plans, working closely with colleagues and support teams to support and advise on interventions and approaches to meet individual needs.
  • Provide specialist assessments, care plans, and interventions to support harm reduction and minimisation.
  • Help reduce episodes of crisis and assist residents/participants to access services which can offer alternatives to crisis support.
  • Work closely with support staff and clinical teams to support and advise them on interventions and approaches to meet resident/participant comorbid, complex mental health and substance misuse needs.
  • Support multi-disciplinary teams and the wider community teams with support, advice, signposting, and move on care planning. 

Shift Pattern: 12 months Fixed Term Contract - Full time: 37.5 hours per week. Hours to be discussed, you will be based in service. 

Salary: £29,000 

Travel: The role is based in East Croydon, accessible by Train and Tram Link. Any travel required outside your home location for work-related purposes can be expensed.  

What experience and qualifications do we require?

  • Direct experience in working with and assessing needs and strengths to support people with dual diagnosis, comorbid, complex needs, substance misuse and related problems.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, providing holistic assessments and support for people experiencing mental health challenges
  • Recent and relevant experience of working with people experiencing substance misuse
  • Appropriate qualification which is relevant to the role which could include: National Diploma, Bachelors, or master’s in psychology, Dual Diagnosis, Substance Misuse or any relevant
  • Experience in psychological interventions for addictions and mental health conditions
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team

What are we looking for from a Dual Diagnosis Worker?  

  • Knowledge of the interactions between mental health problems and drug and alcohol use and the issues facing people trying to stabilise their situation.
  • Applied knowledge of the principles of risk assessment and risk management, particularly in relation to harm minimisation.
  • Ability to engage those who may be hard to reach, able to influence and negotiate positive outcomes with others.
  • Ability and willingness to show flexibility of working patterns, responding to the needs of the service and residents.
  • Knowledge of relapse prevention models and evidence-based interventions.
  • A commitment to promoting recovery, harm reduction, and active involvement in care planning.
  • Apply relapse prevention models to promote sustained recovery and harm reduction.
  • Specialist knowledge on individuals with comorbid and complex needs, focusing on both mental health and substance misuse challenges.
