Relief Bank - Engagement and Activities Worker

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for an Engagement and Activities Worker to carry out supported housing management duties in our service. You will be responsible for maintaining social contact and company to enhance quality of life, enhance personal safety, health and security, sustainment of tenancy, and improving financial independence and economic wellbeing to support our residents and participants back into the community. 

Shift Pattern: Flexible zero hours agreement - Monday to Sunday, shifts vary.

ABOUT THE SERVICE

You will be working in a 24 hour, 25-bed service in Romford, delivered in partnership with Havering Council and other local providers, supporting those who are experiencing homelessness. All admissions are jointly agreed, and placements reviewed at a weekly complex needs panel chaired by the local authority. Residents are agreed on the basis that they are:

• Single and vulnerable with multiple disadvantages – including hospital and acute discharges, drug & alcohol and mental health issues
• Street homeless with multiple disadvantages
• Aged from 18 to 55 years
• Willing to reduce the use of substances and engage with drug and alcohol treatment services

We are looking for a team player, driven to provide high quality care and support to others, an effective communicator who is able to build rapport with others from various backgrounds. You will be compassionate, supportive, and empowering to others, whilst able to form effective, positive and motivational relationships.

OVERVIEW OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Act as a Key Worker, and support residents and participants in various activities, such as support plans.
• Participate in and encourage R&P’s to participate in the running and development of projects, social enterprise initiatives, raining, volunteering and work experience.
• Ensure our R&P’s understand their rights and responsibilities and have access to the right tools and resources.
• Carry out regular occupancy checks such as managing health and safety, and ensuring correct occupancy numbers.
• Tenancy Management, ensuring sign ups to tenancies, licencing agreements, taking payments, general living support.
• Develop and maintain strong internal and external relationships.
• Attend appointments with residents when required.
• Recognise signs of deteriorating mental health and initiate appropriate interventions to prevent a crisis.
• Admin will vary.

Other responsibilities than those described above may be required to be undertaken from time to time and will be expected to be performed to as long as it is within the capability and level of the position. 

KEY CRITERIA

What we are looking for:

• IT Proficiency, ability to learn new software programs, basic Microsoft experience is required
• Experience of working with people of multiple disadvantages, including in the criminal justice field, mental health, and/or substance misuse or a good understanding of the sector
• Understanding of the housing and social needs of people with multiple and complex needs
• Able to influence and negotiate positive outcomes with others

What we would like, but not essential:

• Appropriate qualification: NVQ/Diploma Level 2 in Health & Social Care/Community Justice, or professional equivalent
• Experience of providing housing support and a practical assistance within a residential or outreach support role
• Experience creating co-produced support plans and providing appropriate interventions for service user and liaising with other professionals
