ABOUT THE ROLE 

Are you ready to make a real difference in the lives of those in need? We are seeking a dedicated Support Mentor to join our service in Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC). RBKC services specialise in supporting people with multiple needs, accommodation and community-based support. We help people that struggle with daily living, mental illness, substance and alcohol abuses, homelessness or offending backgrounds by providing them with support to overcome difficulties existing because of their life circumstances.

We are looking for motivated and compassionate individuals who are willing to work flexibly to meet the  needs of this complex client group. Successful candidates will work in close partnership with the local authority and street outreach teams.

Rota: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Sunday on a rota system, including early, day and late shifts.

ABOUT YOU

You will be driven to provide high quality, effective and person-centred support to others. You will be compassionate, supportive, and empowering to others, comfortable working in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment

What we are looking for:

  • Experience of working with people of complex backgrounds and/or a good understanding of the sector 
  • Ability to use, learn and adapt to IT at an intermediate level, including Microsoft and other software programs 
  • Ability and willingness to show flexibility of working patterns, responding to the needs of the service and residents  
  • Understanding of the housing and social needs of people with multiple and complex needs 

What we would like, but not essential:

  • Experience creating co-produced support plans and providing appropriate interventions for residents/participants and liaising with other professional 
  • Experience in providing housing support and practical assistance within a residential or outreach support role 
  • Appropriate professional qualification: NVQ/Diploma Level 2 in Health & Social Care/Psychology/Community Justice or professional equivalent 

OVERVIEW OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support residents/participants to achieve their desired goals/outcomes for example the contribution and development of support plans, risk assessments, reviews, case meetings. 
  • Ensure service responsibilities and requirements are carried out effectively. For example carry out welfare checks, risk assessments, support sessions, safeguarding checks, training and development, and other responsibilities required for effective service delivery. 
  • Develop, participate in, and encourage residents/participants to participate in the running and development of various projects and activities. 
  • Support with creating a welcoming, psychologically informed home environment for residents and participants, ensuring a continuous focus on safety, health, and wellbeing.

Other responsibilities than those described above may be required to be undertaken from time to time and will be expected to be performed to as long as it is within the capability and level of the position.
